Cancelled: Monthly Meeting, Wednesday April 1

Dear neighbors and community members of Wallingford,

The Wallingford Community Council Monthly Meeting scheduled for Wednesday April 1 is cancelled! The health of our members and neighbors is very important and we are following all Public Health – Seattle & King County recommendations for COVID-19.

We plan to reschedule our guest speakers, Christa Dumpys and Darrell Bulmer, Community and Outreach Managers from the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT). They are eager to share updates and answer questions about ongoing transportation projects in Wallingford. In the meantime, they provided two quick updates:

Bus Route 44 Transit-Plus Multimodal Corridor project:

After bringing 30 concepts to the Wallingford community, Darrell said they have narrowed the scope to 15 concepts. He confirmed two of the concepts include simple signal changes, and none include removing parking along N/NE 45th Street (from Stone Way N to I-5) for bus lanes. The only concepts currently that include bus lanes are west of Stone Way N and east of I-5. For more details, visit the Route 44 Transit-Plus Multimodal Corridor website.

Green Lake Way and Wallingford Paving projects:

The paving work continues for N 40th Street, N 50th Street, and the Green Lake Way N loop. SDOT plans to start working on Saturdays along Green Lake Way N starting as soon as this week, and N 50th Street paving should start in late spring. Visit the Green Lake and Wallingford Paving website for information and subscribe to receive email updates.

King County Metro is proposing to substantially revise bus routes under the North Link Connections Mobility Project in conjunction with Sound Transit opening new Link light-rail stations in the University District, at Roosevelt, and at Northgate. Bus service in Wallingford is affected. For more details, visit the North Link Connections Mobility Project website and provide your comments before the end of March.

For COVID-19 resources, visit the Public Health – Seattle & King County and the King County Council websites for current information. The Seattle Times is tracking COVID-19 related news and has removed the electronic paywall: all COVID-19 articles are free without a subscription.

Lastly, I am optimistic we will be able to hold our Annual Meeting scheduled for Wednesday May 6. We will confirm the meeting status near the end of April. Anyone wishing to vote for Officers must join the Wallingford Community Council and pay dues at least 15 days before the Annual Meeting (on or before April 21).

We wish each of you good health in the days and weeks ahead. If you have any questions, please reach out to us.

Sincerely,
Jenny Ring-Perez
President, Wallingford Community Council
